Principal Scientist-Applied Cereals Genomics
ICRISAT is seeking applications from a dynamic and highly innovative scientist to undertake applied cereals genomics research in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists. The Principal Scientist will be based at ICRISAT Headquarters near Greater Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, working within the Research Program on Dryland Cereals and reports to the Research Program Director-Dryland Cereals.

The Job and Responsibilities

·         To lead research on cereal genomics at ICRISAT, including the development of genomics tools and their application to sorghum, pearl millet and finger millet breeding programs.

·         S/he  is expected to work in close collaboration with other ICRISAT cereal scientists as well as biometrics and bioinformatics teams to effectively integrate the use of genomics technology in cultivar development.

·         A major area of research is on the adaptation of cereal crops to extreme climates.

·         Leading the development and application of genomics tools for use in ICRISAT’s global sorghum, pearl millet and finger millet improvement programs.

·         Conducting relevant research in the development and use of genomic tools for gene identification, genome mapping and marker-assisted breeding in one or more of ICRISAT’s dryland cereal crops.

·         Developing linkages and collaborative research projects with advanced research institutions, national agricultural research systems, universities and the private sector.

·         Undertaking capacity building initiatives for stakeholders including policy makers to enhance the impact of genomics in dryland agriculture.

·         Playing an active role in resource mobilization for ICRISAT.

Qualificatons and Experience:

·         PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding, Genetics or other related field.

·         At least 10 years of post-doctoral research experience in plant breeding, genomics, molecular biology or marker-assisted breeding.

·         A record of achievement with academic publications, development and management of research grants, and capacity building initiatives.

·         Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, and knowledge of French will be an advantage.

The Reward:
This is an internationally recruited staff position with an attractive and competitive salary and benefits package payable in US dollars. The position is initially for three years, and extendable depending on performance of the incumbent and funding availability. An attractive compensation will be offered for the right candidate.

Visiting Scientist- On-farm Research
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the position of Visiting Scientist - On-farm Research to be part of a team of multi-disciplinary scientists in the Research Program-Resilient Dryland Systems. The position will be based at ICRISAT’s Headquarters in Patancheru, near Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.

The Job:
  • to work on bridging the yield gaps between the farmers’ current yields and the achievable potential yields in Andhra Pradesh.
  • on-farm research and capacity building of the farmers as well as providing technical support to the Department of Agriculture staff in the districts of Andhra Pradesh
  • interactions with number of partners  and farmers
  • On-farm demonstrations need to be planned, conducted and monitored
  • Collection of data, preparation of reports and conducting on-farm training courses as well as field days will be integral part of the job
The Person: 
  • Ph.D with specialization in Entomology/Agronomy/Soil Science with one or two years of experience in conducting on-farm research is preferred.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
  • The candidate should have aptitude and skills to draft reports, research papers and formulate projects. 
The Reward: The position is for a fixed tenure of two years.  An attractive all inclusive consolidated remuneration will be paid in Indian Rupees with appropriate medical and accidental insurance coverage.

The Job:
Under broad direction of the Director Human Resources & Operations, contribute independently to the corporate Human Resources function. Specific responsibilities/deliverables include the following:
  • Lead in the implementation of a comprehensive Human Resource Information System and will ensure that HR information is always up to date. This includes new hire introductions, HR manuals, common forms and other HR related communications;
  • Develop a solid communication process between headquarters and regional offices to understand and address HR challenges across locations; 
  • Establish a robust HR dash board to measure the HR services;
  • Develop a comprehensive annual staffing plan and manage the recruitment process this includes visibility of vacancies across the web, social media, print, etc.
  • Lead in the recruitment process including shortlisting, coordinating with the candidates, participating in selection panels and preparation of offers;
  • Oversee the employment contracting and renewal process across all locations ensuring compliance to established policies and procedures;
  • Manage/process staff performance management system;
  • Periodic review of compensation and benefits through external benchmarking so that total compensation is competitive to retain and attract competent talent;
  • Shortlist and implement appropriate job grading system. This includes grading new jobs/ role changes, etc;
  • Review and propose policy and process improvements;
  • Support process automation and continuous improvement efforts
  • Maintain e-filing systems, HR database related to all staff. Support reviews and audits

The Person:
  • Masters in Human Resources Management with strong HR conceptual skills.
  • 10- 15 years’ experience with at least 5 years in the managerial role in implementing HR best practices.  Work experience multi-cultural/ multinational international organization will be an added advantage.
Competencies Required: 
  • Ability to conceptualize human resources practices and benchmark them against industry best practices;
  • Ability to analyze complex data, carry out and explain computations or to resolve complex problems;

Principal Scientist – Agro-ecosystems and Watershed Management
The Job:  The Principal Scientist will provide scientific leadership for research on integrated crop, soil, water and/or climate-change risk management options for smallholder farmers at catchment scale in the semi-arid tropics of sub-Saharan Africa.  The person will be expected to have good interpersonal skills and contribute to ICRISAT’s resource mobilization efforts through the development of research proposals. Strengthening of partners’ capacities in agro-ecosystem research, including co-supervision of postgraduate student thesis research is a critical component of the position.
